POSITION: Purchaser

REPORTS TO: General Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:  We are searching for a Purchaser who works well both independently and as part of a team, driven to achieve savings companywide.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job’s overall responsibilities)

  • Purchase raw materials and subcontractor services for production.

  • Stay in continuous contact with suppliers; request quotes, information, etc. to determine which supplier is best suited to purchase products.

  • Negotiate with suppliers on price, availability of products, delivery schedules, etc.

  • Researching and finding new materials. Reviewing costs and suppliers price lists, performing costing reviews and alternate supplier list.

  • Gather information from potential suppliers and establish relationships based on product needs.

  • Place purchase orders ensuring flow of goods that guarantees optimum stock levels and meets turnover goals.

  • Responsible for raw material & shop supply inventory levels. Performs spot checks and random counts for accuracy.

  • Managing and Renewing Support services contracts and negotiate freight rates with suitable carriers.

  • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with improvement of preventative maintenance documentation, including the scheduling of equipment repairs & asset management.

  • Maintaining accurate supplier information and records in the company ERP/CRM database platform

  • Working as a team player with Internal Stakeholders, Sales, Production, Purchasing, and Engineering Departments to improve accuracy and efficiency in departmental spending.

  • Develop reports to track suppliers and category spending that is up to date and provides information for analysis.

  • Identify, research, and resolve problems relating to purchasing issues

  • Review and sign off on Purchase Order Accounts Payable Invoices.

  • Miscellaneous duties as required; a smaller company like this requires the ability to take on new tasks as requested.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS AND INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:This position will require interaction/communication with the Production Scheduler, Accounts Payable Administrator and General Manager frequently. May have long periods of working independently.

 KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

  • Experience with ERP/CRM database tools is a strong asset (in particular, Sage and Access).

  • Be able to read and understand AutoCAD drawings.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain Networking and Relationship Building

  • Negotiation and communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively plan and organize work. Must be a motivated self-starter that can work in a small office with minimal supervision.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in purchasing,ideally in the manufacturing sector.

  • Knowledge of Excavator products and components an asset; although not as important as an ability to learn, and friendly disposition towards others.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:   Works in an office environment. Proper protective equipment will be provided when required to periodically enter the production facility.
